I visited Brunswick tram depot today and managed to get some fairly ordinary quality pictures from useful viewpoints.
First pic looks east from a train on the railway line that runs down the western side of the depot.
If you look carefully it is possible to make out 9 tracks.
If we number them 10 to 18 (following on from road 9 in the depot) then:
- Roads 10, 11 and 12 run down to dead ends behind the traffic office with road 12 at a lower level.
- Roads 13 to 18 run to what appears to be a new fan at the east end of the tracks (although not definitely so for road 13)
The second photo look west from Sydney Rd.
My arm was not quite long enough to get the whole fan in the image but it looks like roads 13 (or perhaps 14) to 18 will all be connected to a single track exit to Sydney Rd.
This is the 'holy grail' of modern depot design with trams running in one end and out the other.
Mal Rowe - who may go back and see if his arm can stretch a bit further.
