G class launched into service this morning

The first G class to enter regular service was launched at Essendon Depot this morning. Premier Ben Carroll and Deputy Premier Gabrielle Williams launched the tram and thanked the hundreds of people who had brought the design and construction to this stage over the last 8 years. Ms Williams is currently also the Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Minister for Public and Active Transport. First pic shows the tram heading out of Essendon Depot on its first public run.  It was loaded with a large number of people who worked on the New Generation Trams project. Second pic show the Premier and his Deputy in the cab.  Route 59 runs through the Premier's electorate so he is pretty pleased! A pleasant run to the city was enjoyed by all (including me) with regular rounds of applause and cheering. The tram and others are expected to run regularly in 'extra services' from now on. For an excellent video coverage of the tram see the link provided earlier by Malcolm Miles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Air_b_4ZAu4 The maker, Phillip Mallis, was there this morning so expect to see more from him. Mal Rowe - grateful for the invitation
