In the 1950s the MMTB was concerned about increasing congestion. They set out to gather evidence by setting up a photographer at various locations and taking a photo every few minutes. The attached is one such photo, taken from the Franklin St signal box. - not a lot of congestion but a nice glimpse of the times. The 'double parking' visible at left was one of the key issues the MTB wanted addressed. The only congestion seems to be self generated with 5 trams northbound waiting to shunt in Victoria St. The car at left with dash canopy lighting is probably 920; it has already had holes cut in the canopy to show a bit more light.
