Melbourne trams grab a bit more road space

A slow but steady campaign is in progress to create Tram Only lanes across Melbourne. A recent example is Epsom Rd in Ascot Vale, near the Showgrounds and the Flemington racecourse. I made the two pics attached today.  They show the tramway north and south of the railway bridge that carries the racecourse branch railway and the berms to deter motor cars. The tramway near the racecourse was usually barricaded during the Melbourne Cup carnival, but now that is permanent. The work is part of the preparation of route 57 for the introduction of G class trams and involves about 1km of tramway. Mal Rowe watching with approval.
