Re: [TramsDownUnder] Digest for tramsdownunder@googlegroups.com - 5 updates in 3 topics

Very sad to advise the passing, after a long illness, of Sydney Tramway Museum member 288 Anthony (Tony) Cody.
Tony joined the Museum in 1973 and was a member of the Traffic staff. He was the museum's Archivist until he was no longer able to visit Loftus.
No further details are available.
Let the STM/SPER  Secretary know if you wish to be informed of any funeral details if they become available. secretary@sydneytrams.org.au

Have completed four out of the five tram systems to be experienced this adventure:

Kagoshima
Kumamoto
Matsuyama
Nagasaki

Next and last stop is Kochi.

Wonderful riding old trams in regular daily service!

The work of the intrepid enthusiast is never complete.

Hi all and Paul,

Are you not able to visit Hiroshima?

PETS (Perth) received four (4) standard gauge Brill 77E bogies from Hiroshima
in 2023, to follow up the four we received from Kagoshima in 1990.
Two of the latest four will go under Perth 2nd A third series No. 130.

The ex-Kagoshima bogies are under Perth 66 and Fremantle 29.

However, for all that Paul, you are able to visit those places at my envy. I
really wish I could see the people at those tramways and thank them personally
for their extremely kind and generous gift to our Society and the people of
Perth, when they visit Whiteman Park.

Regards and enjoy the trip.

Bob in Perth

It probably hasn't helped that the locally built battery-electric buses
have proven to be unreliable, if the Chinese are turning out cheaper and
more reliable vehicles....

A lot of the buy local rhetoric has been 'buy Aussie and get a better
product'. But what happens when the local is not only more expensive but
noticeably inferior?

If we are going to pay more to support local industry, the product needs to
be at least equivalent in quality/reliability to the import.

(I gather one of the reasons that Sydney is so short of buses and needed
these Chinese imports in a hurry is the number of Custom Denning Elements
out of service.)

Actually it's the backlog in rolling out charging infrastructure that's
causing new buses to be stored out of service.

There's nothing wrong with the Element 2s. A lot of electric buses are
taken out of service as a result of drivers misinterpreting advisorys as
faults and then the depots calling in the manufacturers instead of fixing
issues themselves. Give them all a few years and they'll become familiar
with electric buses.
