On 1 Jan 1997 there were just two operational tram/light rail systems in Australia:
- Adelaide
- Melbourne
Now there are how many?
- Adelaide (expanded)
- Canberra (with extensions underway)
- Gold Coast (built and extended with another extension under way)
- Melbourne (expanded and with 200 new trams plus 100 more ordered)
- Newcastle
- Parramatta (just opened)
- Sydney (built and expanded)
As for Perth and Brisbane - there's still time to see the light (rail).
